The big advantage of winter time, is that it is easier to hide those extra pounds underneath layers of clothing. But when the first rays of sun announce the upcoming summer, this is becoming increasingly difficult. But hey, summer means vacation and relaxing at the beach, right? Well, apparently not, according to recent British research. It shows that women do not look forward to their vacation, because the idea of having to undress at the beach is giving them stress.
Is this something you recognize? You are not alone then; almost 75% of the women that took part in the research indicated that they resent the idea of having to show themselves in public, wearing bathing clothes. 4 out of 10 even say that they won’t go to the beach at all.
Obviously, this is a shame, because holidays should be about fun and relaxation. Professor Jacquie Lavin states “from a psycholical view, the summer is a perfect moment to lose weight. Because of the good weather, people tend to be more positive and optimistic. Losing a few extra pounds before going on a holiday can have a great positive effect on your confidence”.
So avoid having stress about changing your winter gear for a summer bikini, by taking these tips into account:
1. Start early, take your time. Don’t try to lose a lot of weight in just a few week through a crash diet. You’ll probably end up heavier over time!
2. Try to lose 2 to 4 kilograms (4-10 pounds) per month. The more time you take, the greater the chance that it stays off!
3. NEVER skip a meal, have 3 moderate meals a day and 2 healthy snacks (before and after lunch)
4. Have a good breakfast, it’s the most important meal of the day!
5. Drink enough water, tea and coffee, but stay away from soda and fruit juices as much as possible
6. Avoid eating unhealthy snacks like fries, cookies and candy. Have a healthy snack like an apple, cracker or tomato instead!
7. Exercise! This is a key part of a healthy lifestyle and it makes you look great. Use this website to keep motivated!
Getting fit and losing weight is not about torturing yourself. Eat healthy foods you like and get energized through exercise. A healthy lifestyle allows you to eat something less healthy (chocolate!!) now and then, so don’t feel guilty about it. You deserved it!
Good luck!
