Hi People I have been training in Mauy Thai for 31yrs and I have just got my first belt at Goshin Jiu Jitsu. At the weekend I gained my coaching certficate in Dacayana Eskrima. What new thing are giving a go?
With the new judo rule changes I am trying to get tomoe nage into my repertoire to use against bigger players who bend you over. Left harai goshi and uchimata, right tai otoshi. Armbars and the transitions into them from standing. Trying to use a double lapel grip more to make it less predictable.
i do yoga, it is great for stretching, and has decreased my knee pain, and back pain significantly. i used to have to take buttloads of pain meds, but haven't needed them since i started the yoga, about a year ago.
Hello, I have been in martial arts for over 35 years. I hold a 3rd degree black belt in Aikido, brown belt in Judo and I'm a tai chi instructor and a certified personal trainer and sports nutritionist

Tae kwon do for about five years. I'm a first degree black belt. Had major back surgery and am a year and 9 months out. I need to find a way to get fit again and hopefully retain much of what I have learned of tkd. I'm not supposed to practice anymore, but I feel that some training would be ok. Any advice?
I'm 35. Always been interested in martial arts. Started with Aikido as a kid and then experimented with many others. I've settled into Shinto Ryu MMA. @angie: I compressed my lumbar 1 vertibrae when I was 17 and was told not to train in any martial art or other remotely contact or impact sport. I got very depressed. I eventually went to my GP and was told that the specialists were being over cautious. That My spine was strong but I had to be careful. Weigh up the options and risks. Don't over do it. I was told to avoid the Judo/Aikido rolling throwing stuff and stay to the styles that you can kick someones head in. lol. It was after this that I became even more involved with martial arts. I know instruct in a Mixed Martial Art and do all the head kicking I can, however I have decided that my back can handle the throwing and rolling too. So far so good. I believe you can't live in fear but you have to break into it slowly and carefully. :)
Angie, talk to your physical therapist, and work to design a program that will work for you. Just about every legend in the martial arts has battled some sort of " handicap". Bruce Lee, Bill Wallace, etc.
How much you can do , has alot to do with what you believe you are capable of doing. Good Luck
Thanks all for the comments! It has been so hard for me not to have martial arts in my life for the last two years. I loved it and it gave me something to look forward to after the end of a hard day. I have been thinking about going back despite what my surgeon said. I think I may have found a new instructor in my area and have been considering approaching him. Life is good, martial arts just made it that much better... oh yeah, I think he was also a chiropractor in Korea. ;)
I always aproach an instructor witht the details and tell them what you want. They can be quite accomodating when it comes to injuries and a true martial art should be adaptable to anyone whether in a wheel chair, leg missing or back injury. Good luck. Have fun and let me know how you get on.
Sounds like this guy you found could be good though. :)

I've had about a year of Wingchun, finished the sil-lim-tao form. I was younger and quit for lack of patience but noticed how much of a positive impact it had on my life so I plan on finding another school. I think it's a beautiful fighting art that includes many realistic applications.
