The Top100-lists are of no sense. Being a good approach in the beginning, there are some **** guys, entering training sessions, that take more than 24 hours within a day,

Is there a possibility to stop such a nonsense? Validity checks or something similar?
Grant 04-06-2012 12:01
Agree that validity checks would be useful. For example, once I earned a reword for goal achievement because entered wrong value. When I noticed a mistake, I deleted wrong value, but can’t delete that reword. The same issue applies to badges.
hsport 04-06-2012 12:02
Yes, you can remove errorneously earned badges. THere is a recalculate button.
Paul 04-06-2012 14:30
Yes, as hsports states: for badges we have a function to recalculate (green recycle arrow at the lower left of the specific badge page). It then recalculates that badge and removes it if you don't qualify for it anymore.
Grant 04-06-2012 16:37
Hsport, Paul thank you. I did not see re-calculate button. Deleted two bages that are not valid on my page :)
Paul 04-06-2012 17:21
@Grant... good to hear it works ;-) Regarding the ranking problem with people tracking more than 24 hours: we're gonna think about a solution to solve this! Any ideas to prevent this mis-use are welcome!
hsport 04-06-2012 19:42
While entering the data, there could be a calculation, whether it can be entered at that time (e.g. impossibility to enter finished 15 hours activity at 10 a.m.). Also in sum there should not be a possibility to enter more than 20 hours activity. Everyone has to eat, talk or do some leisure, that is not worth to be tracked. Else virtuagym will become a kind of common diary.
rforsburg 04-06-2012 21:53
Not to mention some top users are still recording big numbers for: cleaning, reading, watching TV, babysitting..... while you burn calories at these they are not physical types of work / exercise. Even gardening and lawn mowing are border line.
missywombat 05-06-2012 02:13
I work up more of a sweat cleaning than I would do with some of the standard exercises. Scrubbing a table after my kid has forgotten to wipe up food stains takes a fair bit of effort. Floors, well that's a quick vacuum, quick mop at a minimum and often a hand and knees scrubbing job. It's a better workout than many of the regular exercises!
hsport 05-06-2012 08:15
Yes, agreed, but you even have to do such things regardless of your sports program. If not ... come over and clean my house in case of having such a good workout by doing so ;-) My kids sometimes are also that, what we call "Dreckspatz" in germany.
binaryme65 05-06-2012 17:06
I really enjoy using virtuagym and it has been a great help since I started 2 months ago. The rewards system and the Top 100 are good motivators but, like others, I do get a little annoyed when I see some of the things people put down as 'exercise'. After all, the program is called 'VirtuaGym' for a reason. Otherwise it may as well be called virtual housekeeper or Simcity... Don't get me wrong, I know housekeeping and babysitting are demanding jobs (I'm a father of four and a grandfather). I have a "day job" too (includes walking/lifting) but I don't see that as part of my 'exercise'. To me, those things should already be included in the activity level part of the question when you workout your BMR and daily calorie allowance. Exercise is something we do in addition to our 'regular' daily routines. At least, thats how I see it.
roel-vogel 05-06-2012 17:14
@rforsburg Yes many top users still track activities like cleaning, reading, watching TV, babysitting. They don't earn Fitness Points for this anymore. @hsport Your idea of checking if the activity is possible to track is a nice idea. We might implement something like that in an update.
Grant 05-06-2012 20:02
Continue brainstorming on this hot topic :)
Re non-sport activities: it may be more convenient to have a separate diary for them. Re validity checks: unfortunately it will never be possible to check full complience of recorded data with actual acivities for ranking purposes. Individual Leaderboard could be a solution (when each individual chooses other participants to be included to (excluded from) his/her own ranking).
wiechmannmarc 06-06-2012 00:17
I like the Idea of plausibility tests. You might check unplausible user activities ones per month and if you find some you can exclude him from the ranking completely the according month and maybe the next two ones.

Removing activities of the everyday life would also help for sure. And it would value up the exercise plans as well. One would have a better overview on the "real" training plans of the top users, so one can better adopt some valueable activities for ones own training.
hsport 06-06-2012 09:37
Unfortunately I have to agree Grant. Even if the system gets cleaned from non-sports-activities, it depends on the user, what data are logged. How valid can it be, when a 15 year old kid with a BMI of over 25 enters 5 hours of running? Impossible? Theroretically not, but it is very, very unusual, especially in the situation of not loosing any weight.
Hugo 11-06-2012 10:47
Hi all, thanks for thinking along on how to solve the cheating issues with the leaderboards. We noticed that as we took out activities like cleaning from the list, some people just started to do insane amounts of exercise.. :) Starting from now, we will be more actively monitoring the list and sending out warnings to obvious abusers and will remove their account if no change is made. We already deleted a 12 year old burning over 1,4 million calories this month. We will never be able to make it 100% fraud proof, but hope we can make it better for you this way. Thanks for thinking along and keep the feedback coming!

seriously you must be being hacked, look at some of the 'top' users for this month. some havent added exercise for two months and are marked as having 2-4 hours of exercise. Why dont you start having a report button for some of these which would alert someone to take a look. Perhaps then at least people will cheat with more intelligence. And these folks are SO obvious on the first day of the month.
WBonilla 9 months ago
I still don't understand how you can burn 400+ calories watching TV. I wish I need that before because with the amount of TV I watch, I should be very skinny person. Maybe new badges can be created for these activities like "Couch Potato" and "Good Housekeeping" ?
janeinma 9 months ago
I just want to invite the folks who do 3-4 hours of very intense housecleaning or gardening each day round to my house. I am just too tired after working to do the intensity they seem to maintain :-)
mdolphin99 5 months ago
Another validity check could be entering the same exercise multiple time. Several people on the leaderboard seem to have the same exercise listed seven times for the same duration and time.  Could this be a application sync problem or maybe database?  Something to look at since that would  multiple workouts.  It doesn't seem right to do cool down 7 times in the row.

The activity is called "mountain biking", you will find it that way :)

This is strange, are you using the app or the website?
Hugo previous week
I checked both the sports you can add to your profile and the activity calendar and I found it in both. Could you provide more info on what you try to do Silvano? I.e. which steps you take to get to the point where it doesnt show? Thanks!

Hello,

Great site and app.
I been using it for a couple of weeks and it's just great. I can monitor my progress etc, cool.
But I do have some suggestions.
1. The invite feature on your site, can you make it possible to just add an email without using the "tools" that will import our address books. I tried to use the outlook one but it does not see all my contacts.
2. Me and some friends are now using this to monitor our progress and do some friendly competition ;-). Can it be possible to group challenges to one big challenge/competition?
3. The android app is great but I do have one mayor issue with it. I listen to music while exercising. But every time I click on an activity to edit reps or weight, it will pause my music, which is very annoying. Can you make the apps media (video/audio) to run in parallel with any other media that is being played?

And finally I have a problem with my account. I have already sent an email but I didn't receive any response.
Can you change my country to Netherlands Antilles, since I keep getting an error when I try to do this. Also can actually change Netherlands Antilles to Curacao, St. Maarten en BES?

Thanks and keep up the great work.

Hi Rayen, thanks for your extensive feedback! We'll have a look at the invite feature. I agree it should be easier just to invite by email. Maybe we can add Facebook invites then as well.Im not sure what you mean with grouping challenges, but you are free to join in on community wide challenges in addition to your private ones. I think grouping (not even sure how we would have to realize this) would make things unnecessary more complex.
The music bug is something we get a lot. Sadly, this is a problem with Android caused by the fact that we use video. we cannot fix it in the way the app is designed now, but we will try to find some sort of workaround.
As for your account, please go to settings -> Language and Location and change your country to Netherlands Antilles. I have made a todo to replace NA with the individual islands. Stay fit! :)
Rayen 7 days ago
Hi Hugo,I tried to change my location by selecting Netherlands Antilles and it is also asking for location, I tried both Curacao and Willemstad but the system is telling me location not found. That is why I ask if you can change it for me in the backend of the system.

Thanks.

Hello!I fell in love with virtuagym. It has everything what I need!

I found a slip of the pen:
In the my sports section there is a calsthenics. It is cal(i)sthenics.
Hugo 3 weeks ago
Thanks, happy to hear you like it! And you're right on the spelling error. Thanks for letting us know. You actually do this sport?
KOB 3 weeks ago
Yes, I started training based on a book: Paul "Coach" Wade - Convict Conditioning

If you enter a decimal in front of a unit eg 0.5 scoop then it comes up as 100 scoops. You then have to edit it. Happens with everything.

I will fix this right away, so it should be fixed later today!

Thanks, we had a look at it and youre right. We never had this in mind when we built it, but this should be possible, so its on the todo list! ;)

I notice you have cholesterol added to the metrics. Total cholesterol by itself is a bit misleading. Total cholesterol, HDL-Cholesterol [the healthy sort] and Triglycerides and maybe cholesterol ratio would be more useful.

You are so right on this. We will fix it asap!

Hi, I was wondering if it is possible to start a total weight liftet 2013 challenge and make it track weight lifted from january 1. 2013 to 31.december 2013? so it tracks the weight I have allready liftet
Hugo previous month
Hi! The challenges only support activities / performance tracking from today's date. But you could start a challenge from now until the end of the year. At 1st of January 2014 you could do it for the whole year. ;)

to be able to create my own or add an activity that isn't in the list.

You can if you are a pro member. When you search for an activity and no results come up there will be a button to create your own activity.
